Why wash the hairbrush?
First, you should know that the brush works like a sponge. That is, it can retain other types of waste in your hair, whether they come from the hair or the environment.
Your brush also contains skin residue that can be transferred to your hair every time you use it. What's more, hair falls out every day. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, it is normal to lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. Ultimately, these hairs can build up in the brush.
Without regular cleaning, all that residue can be transferred to your hair every time you use your brush. So a dirty brush won't help your hair look great, quite the opposite.
How often should you clean your toothbrush?
In fact, your usage habits will determine how often you clean them. For example if you use styling creams or other types of styling products regularly. it is advisable to clean your toothbrush at least once a week. However, if you use fewer creams, every 2 weeks
However, to make your life easier, always remove hair residues daily.
How to Clean Your Hairbrush?
Cleaning the hairbrush doesn't take much time. Once you get used to the process, it will be even easier for you to handle it next time. Just take into account the type of brush.
Solution for good toothbrush hygiene
hot water – 1 bowls
mild shampoo
sodium bicarbonate
scissors
an old toothbrush
long, thin-handled comb (optional)
Process:
1. Remove the hair from the brush.
Use the tip of a long, fine-handled comb to remove hair from the brush. If you don't have a comb, anything sharp will do, such as a pen, pencil, or ice pick. You can also use scissors to cut any hair that has become tangled in the bristles of the brush.
2. Dip the brush
Fill a bowl or bucket with hot water. Add a few drops of neutral shampoo to the water. For added cleaning action, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of baking soda.
Stir well, then dip the entire brush into this mixture and let it soak for 3 to 5 minutes. This way, you can repeat this several times to loosen and remove oils and residue.
3. Clean more with a toothbrush
On the other hand, if your toothbrush is very dirty, you may need to use an old toothbrush to clean the base and bristles.
Next, you will need to dip your toothbrush in soapy water and make sure you scrub each bristle, then start at the base of the hair and work your way up.
4. Rinse and dry
Right after cleaning the hairbrush, rinse it with cold water. Afterwards, dry with a cloth or towel.
Finally, if your brush is made of wood, the process does not differ much. However, replace the baking soda with tea tree essential oil, which has a fungicidal and antibacterial action. Also, don't leave the wooden brush submerged, just use a spray bottle with the solution.
