How to wash your baby's clothes, see here, everything you need to know

If you're a first-time mom or dad, it's a dilemma that many face. Now, you have a new “little being” of joy that is churning out a ton of laundry.

However, you are not sure which products and methods you should use to ensure the safest and cleanest clothes for your baby.

First of all, you should know that the strongest soaps can irritate the newborn's skin. So, use the mildest product possible, and avoid these types.

Certain types of soap make the fabric softer, while also containing some of the unnecessary additives that can cause some irritation; on the other hand, these soaps are also less alkaline than conventional soaps and, therefore, do not have stronger cleaning and stain-fighting properties.

So how to proceed?

What is the most suitable way to wash?

First of all, you should avoid fabric softeners, as well as products that contain dyes and perfumes.

Before washing any garment for the first time, read the instruction label. What is the most suitable product to use on that fabric.

You can wash the baby's clothes separately from the rest of the family, but this is not necessary as long as you use the same mild soap for everyone.

How to get rid of all types of stains

At this stage, the good news is that the days of floor stains and finger paints are still a long way off. Even so, babies produce a surprising amount of dirty and stained clothing.

Fast action is your best option. First, always prewash stains in cold water. Water is enough to remove many stains – especially light ones like drool and milk if you act on them while they are still fresh.

Even the hardest stains will loosen up a bit as they soak in water.

You can use a soft bristle brush and a small amount of mild soap to gently clean the stain, but don't rub or you risk damaging the fabric and still printing the stain.

After trying to remove the stain, always check for residue before drying the garment – if the stain remains, try soaking the garment for a while.

Oil stain

For oil stains remove excess and cover area with cornstarch or talcum powder to absorb oil; scrape off after 10 to 15 minutes. Afterwards, wash as usual.

Fruit juices and baby food

They foods can leave distinct marks on clothes. Wash with cold water; soak in an individual mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water. If the stain comes off, wash as usual.

For a persistent stain, lightly wash the area by soaking it in a one-to-one mixture of white vinegar and water.

Tip: Never use or mix any product containing bleach, ammonia or vinegar; these combinations are toxic.

Be sure to rinse the clothes thoroughly. Keep these and all household products out of the reach of children. Baking soda is an effective cleaner, deodorizer, and softener.

Mix with water to form a paste and use on stains to absorb odors or add to water when pre-soaking stained clothes to eliminate stains.

Another option is borax, a water-soluble mineral with antiseptic, antibacterial, water softening and bleaching properties.

Tip; Always use coconut soap for baby's clothes, it can be in bar, the other neutral soap. Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
